There is one thing that I must make very clear. If you attempt this on a private tracker this could obviously get you banned especially if you lack common sense and change the record of how much you have uploaded to 100 GB one day after joining the tracker.
There are two share ratios you need to be aware of the one tracked by a private tracker (If you signed up to one obviously) and your other share ratio that is tracked by a client program like Azureus.
Hacking a private tracker:
This will only work if the tracker is running torrentbits source code
Programs that you need:
- HTTP Analyzer
- Mozilla Firefox
- User Agent Switcher Extension
- And a bittorrent client
1. Install the User Agent Switcher Extension (the extension will be used to identify as a bittorrent client to the tracker) to Mozilla Firefox (if you don’t have Firefox, get it!).
2. After installing the extension go in Firefox to:
Tools -> User Agent Switcher -> Options -> Options -> User Agents
Click Add, write “BitTorrent/3.4.2” to the Description and User Agent and then press “Ok”.
3. Then go to:
Tools -> User Agent Switcher and select the newly added User Agent, “BitTorrent/3.4.2”.
4. Install HTTP Analyzer.
5. Get a .torrent file from a tracker that uses the torrentbits source code and add it to your client. (DO NOT START IT)
6. Start HTTP Analyzer and go to the “Start Logging” button, select “Select a process…”, choose your bittorrent client (Important: If you use Azureus, select the javaw.exe proccess from the list) from the list and click “Ok”.
7. Go into your client and start the torrent.
8. Now go into HTTP Analyzer, there you should see a GET request to the tracker.
Example:
GET /torrents/announce.php? info_hash=%B5%2D%F4%ADM%18%7C%83C%E9%EC%C8%C7%F7%973%3Fap%15&peer_id= %2DBC0059%2Dp%D1%FBd%D0%C6%EC%7B%B4%D5q%B8&port=12345&uploaded=0&downloaded =0&left=0&numwant=200&compact=1&no_peer_id=1&key=9427&event=started HTTP/1.0
9. Open Firefox, paste into the address bar:
(because of the format of this blog the entire line of text dosen’t show, when you paste this in the browser erase the space between “&port=” and “PORT&” )
http://TRACKER.ADDRESS/announce.php?info_hash=INFOHASH&peer_id=PEERID&port= PORT&uploaded=UPLOADED&downloaded=0&left=0&numwant=0&event=completed
replace:
TRACKER.ADDRESS with the torrent tracker address (ex: www.filelist.org:81)
INFOHASH with info_hash variable taken from the GET request from HTTP Analyzer,
PEERID with the peer_id
PORT with the port
UPLOADED with an number that you want, in bytes (ex: 10737418240 for 10GB)
Source (Go here for pictures if you need more help)
Your bittorent Client:
I discovered this little trick on my own…I use Azureus as a client so this hack will be based on that. I DON’T KNOW IF THIS WORKS WITH OTHER CLIENTS, but you can follow along and try to apply it to whatever client you have.
To reset your Azureus share ratio go to “My Computer” click on your C: drive (or whichever drive you installed windows on)
Go to Tools>folder options>go to “view” tab> select “show hidden files and folders”>click “apply”
Go to “Documents and Settings” Folder.
Go to the folder matching your Windows account name (your user name when you log into windows, it also appears at the top of the start menu)
You will see a faded folder called “Application data” go into it.
Click on the “Azureus” Folder (other bittorrent clients will obviously be under something else)
Delete “azureus.statistics” and “azureus.statistics.bak” and your share ratio will reset to 0. (Other BT clients will have it under something else)
You can also modify your share ratio by opening the azureus.statistics and decreasing the value after “downloadedi”, e.g.:
- before: downloadedi6980608e6
- after: downloadedi1980608e6
you can similary increase the value after “uploadedi”
Do a system restore checkpoint before attempting any of this To learn how go here it is easy to do. go to “Create a Restore Point”.
For other clients where erasing their application data folder doesn’t work it means the share ratio information is stored somewhere else. Try uninstalling the client and erasing anything that is left of it in C:\program files and lastly check the Windows Registry by going to start>run>type “regedit” go to edit>find and search for words like for example “utorrent” erase anything that comes up. Then reinstall the client

A simple way of modifying your share ratio is also by
opening the azureus.statistics and decreasing the value
after “downloadedi”, e.g.:
- before: downloadedi6980608e6
- after: downloadedi1980608e6
you can similary increase the value after “uploadedi”

how do u oppen the statistics file?
March 2, 2007 at 1:48 pm |
You open it with a text editor like notepad, just open notepad…go to file>open and point to that file
March 4, 2007 at 5:11 am |
1. why to hack azureus share ratio? it is shown for your reference only, which will not hinder any downloads.. off course meant to ask you considers more sharing (as this is the basis of “file sharing”)
2. hacking the tracker is clever idea.. and should be done responsibly
March 4, 2007 at 8:48 pm |
actually the share ratio in azureus DOES AFFECT your downloading for public trackers as opposed to private. You just don’t notice because they are very lenient. If it is below .5 there are trackers that will not allow you to connect and other trackers that give you greater download speed if you have over 2.00.
March 12, 2007 at 3:02 pm |
how is it possible to check if a private tracker is using torrentbits source code?
March 12, 2007 at 6:04 pm |
You just have to try and see if it works. Or ask in the the trackers forum. It is not posted anywhere you have to go by trial and error or ask. You can’t tell just by looking because the code could have been modified in some way that would make it hard to recognize.
May 17, 2007 at 2:44 pm |
i got this error..
“d14:failure reason25:unregistered torrent passe”
wat did i do wrong ?
May 17, 2007 at 3:23 pm |
If i remember correctly it means that the torrent is no longer listed in the tracker….that means one of two things
A. The torrent is not listed in the tracker anymore. So look for a torrent that is.
B. You did not enter the GET request into your browser correctly. For example, You may have typed the info hash incorrectly (Steps 8 and 9)
Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am not familiar with all the error codes. I don’t know everything after all
This is all assuming the tracker is running on the torrentbits source code other source codes do not have this flaw that you are currently trying to exploit.

I downloaded User Agent Switcher! How I install it since it is not an .exe file?
May 26, 2007 at 12:57 pm |
Are you using the firefox browser? You need to be running it when you visit the site and click download. User Agent Switcher needs firefox to run.
When you click on the word “download” a bar will appear at the top of the page saying “firefox prevented this site (chrispederick.com) from asking to install software on your computer” click the “edit options” button on the yellow bar and then click allow. then try downloading again.

June 22, 2007 at 12:20 pm |
The best way around all this shit is when you have completed say 25% of your download just uninstall your torrent program and re-install it. Select the same directory where your download files are going and then see what your share ratio is
June 22, 2007 at 12:26 pm |
wamex can you explain exactly what you mean
June 22, 2007 at 12:39 pm |
See I use Azureus and Utorent. For example I am going to download a torrent using Azureus I first download the torrent file in a directory say c:\xxx then I open the torrent in Azureus and save the downloads in the same directory. When it starts the share ratio is 0. Then after say 25% has been completed I stop the download and exit Azureus. Then I start Utorent and open the same torent from c:\xxx and save in the same directory. 25% of the torrent has been downloaded but the share ratio would say 0. Then after 25% has been downloaded which means I have 50% of the file I quite Utorent. I uninstall both Azureus and Utorent and then I follow the same procedure once again. Installing and unstalling Utorent takes hardly any time and one can beat the share ratios like this
June 22, 2007 at 12:40 pm |
Oh I forgot to mention that this works only with public trackers and not private trackers
June 25, 2007 at 9:30 am |
when i did so and opened a firefox tab there was writen d14:failure reason39:Anti-Cheater= You cannot use this agente

The uploaded and downloaded values within the azureus.statistics file are stored in bytes.
To set these values from ‘user friendly’ amounts such as 5 Gb you can do the following.
Exit Azureus
Open the azureus.statistics in a txt editor
Find the string “downloadedi” or “uploadedi” depending on whether you want to alter the downloaded or uploaded counter respectively.
Alter
downloadedinumber of Bytese6 >> downloadedi5368709120e6
5 x 1073741824 = 5368709120 Bytes
(1073741824 = number of Bytes in a Gb)
Save the file.
Now when you start Azureus it will believe you have downloaded 5Gb of data. Obviously also works for the Upload Counter
July 25, 2007 at 3:03 pm |
man there is a more simple way to do this …..chk dis site
http://shareration.blogspot.com/
August 4, 2007 at 5:35 pm |
Why you guys don’t want to upload so the system works for everybody? I don’t really understand why you need to get your ratio higher…
August 6, 2007 at 5:00 am |
did he say that this only works with PUBLIC trackers? if this didnt work with PRIVATE TRACKERS, well then wouldnt it be pointless?
man it was way down in a lil comment too. I was all geeked becasue i thought of the idea that maybe azureus could be hacked to report bigger upload ratios, since im having the problem that a tracker requires .8 – 1:1 ratios, and man 6-7gb for a game can be hard to up sometimes when there is 5-200 seeds and 2-15 peers.

Up here in the Great White North, my cable has a really sucky outbound cap. No way I could get, let alone maintain a 1 to 1 share ratio. I been using Azureus for a while, then suddenly, my downloads were coming in really slow..if at all. Used the Az stat edit and lo and behold! Downloading as normal. Tanks muchly!
October 9, 2007 at 1:53 pm |
nice:

Any idea how the statistics can be modified in uTorrent. I tried editing the statistic file but then uTorrent wouldn’t work properly even though I did manage to increase my ratio. Also a bunch of files showed up by the name bad statistics.
December 29, 2007 at 7:53 pm |
for those people who are wondering which programme should be used to open azureus statistics file, use wordpad.
December 29, 2007 at 7:55 pm |
make sure when u chage the figures in stats file for azurues, u delete the backup file for stats and then change the stats and azurues should must not be running at that time.
January 4, 2008 at 8:58 pm |
I don’t have a javaw.exe in the process list… do you know why?
if I choose azureus.exe there is a GET request in Http analyzer but before the info_hash…. it says something like: http://TRACKER/announce.php?passkey=44418886a09ddebfe9c7ae53
aa98c3a7& and also it doesn’t have any values after the downloads and uploads.. Can you please help?
January 17, 2008 at 1:51 pm |
I changed my azureus stats and now by download rates are horrid! Is it possible they implemented an anti-tampering measure and if the file gets changed by the user and not the program is screws your d/l rate?
January 23, 2008 at 6:28 pm |
Gout
I have Az 3.0.4.2. My share ratio was less than 1. I simply swapped the numeric values around for upload and download, ie. something like:
downloadedi27402537756e8:uploadedi24197544280e6
becomes
downloadedi24197544280e8:uploadedi27402537756e6
YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN BOTH THE .STATISTICS and .STATISTICS.BAK file (so far as I can tell)
Note that Az has e8 after downloaded and e6 after uploaded.
DO NOT SWAP THESE!
My share ratio is now the inverse of what it originally was, ie > 1.
Since I try and share (almost) as much as I download I was not too bothered about a huge ratio – I just tried it out.
Hope this helps
January 23, 2008 at 7:15 pm |
Just to clarify my original share ratio was about 0.884 – but Az has placed e8 after downloaded and e6 after uploaded in the .statistics files (.statistics AND .statistics.bak). If I viewed the Statistics in Az (Tools->Statistics->Tansfers tab) then both figures were in GB for uploads AND downloads, even though there are two orders of magnitude different in the .statistics files figures (e6 and e8)
Swapping the values gave me a share ratio of 1.132
If I tried to swap the values including the e6/e8 then Az spotted that the files had been amended and I got a share ratio of 0.000!
It had recognised the files had been hacked and simply set my uploaded value to 0e6 in the .statistics file : it didn’t amend the modified downloaded value
In other words don’t be too greedy with you share ratios
Don

is there a way to do the same on a mac? i did it with windows and it works lovely, but i have much more hard drive space on my mac.. thanks
January 30, 2008 at 3:02 pm |
haw can I hack ratio on BT if it has a antihack…???
link to the site is “www.address.com”
but in Http Analyzer it shows “http://announce.address.lv/announce.php?….”
This hach doesn’t work on it…!
January 31, 2008 at 7:23 pm |
to do it to your bit torrent client on a mac click on your user profile, then library, application support, then azureus. there you will find “azureus.statistics” and “azureus.statistics.bak”. as far as doing it on a private tracker – i don’t know.
March 8, 2008 at 3:13 pm |
The best thing to do is delete all the code from inside those 2 files and save it…than restart the program.
March 18, 2008 at 12:54 pm |
will this trick also works to the torrents of Deviloid.net?

August 4, 2008 at 11:00 pm |
how do we get this to work for azureus 3.1
September 5, 2008 at 1:49 pm |
completely exit azureus…….DELETE the BAK statistics file……..decrese values after dowloaded to all 1s and even leave out a few digits…..increase all values after uploaded to 9s and even add a few digits if you like……….the statistics files are opened with the Notepad….at first when i did this then started vuze it said a share ratio of 0.00 (bad) but quickly climbed to over 127.723 share ratio(unreal) and climbing!you must delete the BAK file or it will keep resetting itself and never change
September 11, 2008 at 9:24 am |
joshua, nothing worked for me except your instructions.thanks!
ps. not using thi to cheat the system, when i 1st installed i did not understand the sstem, and with only 5kbs to upload could only sustain the same ratio. now can start fresh.
remember to keep seeding. enjoy

Is a tool for make this just load a .torrent file of your private tracker and start the hack

The ratio hack doesn’t seem to work with Firefox 3. Copying the link into the address bar and then pressing enter will cause it to ask you what program you want to use to open it with or save the file.

December 28, 2008 at 12:03 pm |
thanks. this really helps.
after I had to forcefully reformat my computer, my azureus share ratio went waaay down (from: 2.5 750GB to now 0.37 47GB all up.) and of course the implications of slower downloads on some torrents, etc. my upload speed is less than a quarter of my download speed, so catching up again to my old ratio was just going to be impossible at only 192k up stream. and keeping up with all my downloads of several gigs each is also going to take forever (considering most of these were already pre-shared to at least 0.75 ratio)
April 12, 2009 at 2:01 am |
Did not work at first, but thanks to Joshua and DVSDVIT’s tips it worked with my Azureus-BitTyrant..
