Free outgoing calls to the US and Canada

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThere is a service I have just discovered called iCall. All you need to run iCall is a Windows 2000 or XP-based computer and a headset or a microphone. The only thing you have to do is download their software. From my experience the calls were crisp and clear (for the most part), which I didn’t expect from a free service. But hey, the service is free right? You can’t really complain.

From the Website:

1. Free outgoing calls to the US and Canada

That’s right, 100% free. We’ll never charge you to make a call to the US or Canada. Other places charge up to 3 cents a minute and restrict who can call who.

2. Free incoming calls from anywhere in the world

We have free inbound access numbers in almost every US area code. Just have your friends call one of of them and enter your iCall extension. Click here for a list of our access numbers.

3. Free personalized voicemail

Everyone should have voicemail, so we give it to you. This may take some getting used to – our competitors charge several dollars a month for voicemail service.

Requirements:

  • 128MB of RAM
  • 10MB of hard drive space
  • A headset or a microphone
  • A broadband Internet connection
  • I’ve only tried this with about 5 friends and it worked out pretty well, the major deciding factors are your microphone and internet connection. So if you have cheap dial-up and a shoddy little microphone it may not work as well for you as it did for me.

I have tried ICall and I wasn’t too impressed! I have been using freedigits.com and I got a free incoming number and also 60 minutes to use for outbound calls. I also got a free softphone to use, call quality was very good.

icall is not free. It has a 5 min limit which suxs. After ur call drops it will recommend u to upgrade to icall pro. Dont beleve the hype, cuz it aint truth.
To tell u the truth yea it was 100% free when i downloaded it 3 weeks ago. Then it had to update. It updated, and now they give u a 5 min limit. So something its a catch. Probably free for 3 weeks- month then it will bother u to get icall pro until whenever. Until den enjoy the 5 min limit.

It’s free…it works…for five minutes. And then you can call again. Therefore, it doesn’t suck. I think it’s a great service and would recommend it to anyone who could use it for their shorter calls – for instance, people like ME who have a pre-paid mobile phone plan…or anyone who pays by the minute to use their phone. I can definitely say that it has saved me money to use icall for the last couple weeks. As for whether I will ever pay for the “pro” version….I don’t know. For 5 bucks a month, it wouldn’t be too bad, and supposedly the quality of service is upgraded… anyway it isn’t any worse in quality than my voip phone was…….I just can’t run anything “always on” like messenger services or torrent apps while using it. But to say it suxs (or sucks) is not fair, when it really DOES work.

I’m an Icall Pro user and let me tell you it is not worth going pro. Reasons? 1-Their customer supports is so bad, they barely reply like 1 out of 3 emails. They say they’d reply in 24 hours and it takes over 3 days. 2-You cant always connect 3-They give you a number that forwards the incoming calls to your icall, and that number often says “out of service” unless you have icall open 24/7. 4-Voice mail used to work fine,i’d get an email notification when i receive a new voicemail but all in a sudden it stopped sending notifications,i emailed and they asked me to check my junk mail it wasnt there either, combine this with the “out of service” issue and icall turned into an useless experience for me. They say call quality improves, well slightly i still have to restart icall couple o times to get a good clear line, but atleast the talk time is unlimited. 5-Forward minutes (thats used when someone calls your icall number tru their phone) that they give you is for 3 months, you’d guess the ad that says 1000minutes would be monthly as in cellphone companies but no its for the whole 3 months. 6-You cant sign up for a month and try it out, they leach a 3 months membership for 14 something $. 7- ICALL has no text message option.
