How to replace your iPod screen

Ipod screens (hell, not just the screens the whole ipod) are very easily scratched, if you have never owned an ipod before I only have one piece of advice, buy an iskin or one of the many other ipod covers. If your Ipod warranty ran out you can bring it in to apple for $50 to get it replaced if the battery dies, its the easy way to get rid of scratches. But if you are one of those do-it-yourself people you can replace your scratched ipod screen by yourself. I know some people who went so far as to replace the screen with a different more durable plastic.

    Hello.
I have just used your instructions to replace a broken ipod screen and found them very useful. However, when I started to re assemble the ipod, the hard drive ribbon wouldn’t go back in place. Any help you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated as I agreed to fix the ipod on behalf of my boss and don’t want to lose my job!
    Thanks!

I have the same problem, I am not able to finagle the ribbon back into the slot.

I think this video should be renamed ‘How to Disassemble Your iPod,’ as I was under the impression it would instruct me as to how to replace the screen, not just end up with my iPod in pieces on my desktop.

    RETRACTION:

This is for posterity, I figured out the solution to this problem. There is a locking mechanism similar to what keeps in the HD ribbon. It is made of black plastic. This can be lifted (it’s not on the side where the ribbon enters, but on the opposite side of the contacts), the ribbon inserted, and the black mechanism pushed back down.

I hope this was helpful and allows users to save their iPods and their money and a lot of grief.

    God knows I’ve been grieving.

Please tell me where you purchased the screen. I need one for a fifth generation ipod video and am afraid of being ripped off by internet sellers, yet
Apple tells you to just buy a new ipod. Please help.
    Thanks for any input.
