Verification:
1) Log into your google account through the Webmaster Tools Page.
2) Add your site
3) Go to the Statistics tab and click on the link that says verify.
4)In the web master tools section select “Upload an HTML file” as your method of verification.
5) Create a new page (not a post) and use the code they give you as the title. Example of the code:
google4f645e3adsdaa48g3a41z.html
6) Click to publish it.
7) Ask Google to verify your Blog.
Thanks to Tigre de Fogo for the tip.

Thanks for sharing. What if I want to delete the page with the verification title, what will happen?
August 22, 2008 at 10:47 am |
I tried this but it doesn’t work for me.. WordPress doesn’t save the page as
.html
It saves it without the .html extension so Google cannot verify.. Am I doing something wrong?
August 23, 2008 at 4:45 pm |
Thanks! Worked great.
Barbara, make the title of the new page the same as the html file name that Google give you.
August 26, 2008 at 2:18 pm |
It still knocks off the .html which Google can then no longer crawl?
Can I see where someone has done this effectively?
August 28, 2008 at 9:58 pm |
create a page, not a post. Leave the html on the title.
Make sure it’s not a post.

Same for me — put the html in title of new page — wp returns a 404 page and google gives me a error which i copied here —
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Sep 1, 2008: We’ve detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.
So what i did was go to my site http://www.cheapcheez.com , enter my admin page for my site. Then click on Design ( the tool bar – top left of your screen ) . On the right hand side should be a column with the name – header(header .php) Click on that and it will take you right to the header file.
After you find the header file , it should look similar to this <head profile ( this is the beging of the header file, when you scrool down the end of the header file should look something like this </head .
Now stick the code ( note : this is not the upload html file method, you will be using the other method google uses to verify the site) somewhere in between those two lines of code. I copied and pasted where i put it below . Worked like a charm for me. Enjoy…..

I tried and tried to verify my blog using the new page method mentioned here and elsewhere – couldn’t make it happen. The page kept dropping the “.” before the .html extension. I ended up using Frontpage to create a new page and renamed it make it the needed Google html page in a new website. I uploaded the page to the root of the website (where my WordPress blog is housed) and everything works fine and dandy. Took less than five minutes.

As he said, create PAGE and the past the html code that was given to you in title of the page. Dont bother about how wordpress has taken it. It doesn’t take .html extension. Still, you save it as it is. now go to google web tool page. and then ask it to verify your site. It works. as it worked for me just now.
For this info i have chking for the last 3 hours. Thank you very much sir, for ur info sharing. The same was written in my web page too.

Hi, now your tips not working anymore, as Google webmaster tool has more strict verification method:
1. Download this HTML verification file. [google???.html]
2. Upload the file to http:// ???.wordpress.com/
3. Confirm successful upload by visiting http:// ???.wordpress.com/google???.html in your browser.
4. Click the verify button below.
because now Google not only read the filename but also has specific file verification content.

Thanks for opening up this discussion. But my problem remain unsolved by the method on the top. May be it was valid at previous time but now i think it’s not valid.
I got my blog verified by google by using the method by ‘cliffsull’ (http://cliffsull.wordpress.com/2009/10/24/how-to-verify-your-blog-site-on-google-for-wordpress-com/)

The Method of KKLSERVICES worked wonderful. You just have to go to the TOOLS menu in you administration page and WordPress has a special area where you can verify your blog in different Search Engines like Google or Yahoo.
Thanks a Lot!
